The DermLite DL5 has revolutionized my dermatoscopic practice. Beyond conventional hybrid dermatoscopy, the DL5 offers critical insights into a wide range of skin conditions with its UV-induced Fluorescence Dermatoscopy (UVFD) mode. This device excels at highlighting features that are either otherwise invisible or extremely subtle. It enhances the visibility of multiple aggregated yellow/white clods in BCCs that sometimes extend beyond the suspected tumor border, and reveals erosions – valuable clues in distinguishing flat melanoma from other flat pigmented skin neoplasms. UVFD’s power in defining tumor margins is crucial for thorough evaluations in melanoma and BCCs, and can support a more comprehensive delineation of surgical procedures. By showing distinct fluorescence patterns, it facilitates differential diagnosis across a broad spectrum of inflammatory, infectious, and parasitic diseases commonly encountered in everyday practice. Combined with its good optics, ergonomic design, and and out-of-the-box compatibility with smartphones, the DL5 enables me to make more confident, precise examinations and surgical procedures.
